Regarding history, education scholars Eve Tuck (Unangax\u0302) and Marcia McKenzie (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Place-in-Research-Theory-Methodology-and-Methods\/Tuck-McKenzie\/p\/book\/9781138639683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2015<\/a>) wrote that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bf71461e71b163130bff8e620d116306\" style=\"color:#386268\">&#8220;[w]hen land is recast as property, place becomes exchangeable, saleable, and steal-able. The most important aim of recasting land as property is to make it ahistorical in order to hack away the narratives that invoke prior claims and thus reaffirm the myth of terra nullius.\u201d (p. 64)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By erasing Indigenous histories of land and place, settlers could perpetuate (and still do perpetuate) the idea that the land they live on was <em>terra nullius<\/em>, or blank land awaiting settler arrival. In this podcast episode, Myaamia Center scholars Kara Strass, Kristina Fox, and George Ironstrack briefly share a Myaamia account of the history of their people and land. ETC Press.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhett Loban (Torres Strait Islander) and Thomas Apperley discuss how &#8220;4X&#8221; (&#8220;EXplore, EXpand, EXploit and EXterminate&#8221;) strategy video games center colonizer historic narratives and portray uncolonized lands as <em>terra nullius<\/em>.
