In March, 2019, I had the opportunity to present on the (dire) state of Wikipedia’s coverage of women new media artists at Penn State Art Ed’s Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon. A screen-capture of the talk is embedded below.
For my talk, I put together a Google sheet documenting about 250 women new media artists, whether they are present on Wikipedia, and/or whether they are listed on Wikipedia’s list of “New Media Artists” (which is the first thing that comes up when students Google for “New Media Artists”).
The list is publicly editable (in parts), and folks can update it as they add artists to Wikipedia. This list will auto-update daily as artists are uploaded to Wikipedia. I’m sharing it here, and folks are free to use it as a resource for themselves, or for research or Wiki projects with your own students.
